OUR MODERN SOCIETY IS DEVOID OF MORALITY, ETHICS AND HUMAN DIGNITY

My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ Our Only True Lord, God, and Savior,

CHRIST IS IN OUR MIDST! HE WAS, IS, AND EVER SHALL BE.

OUR MODERN SOCIETY IS DEVOID OF MORALITY, ETHICS AND HUMAN DIGNITY

From the 17th century to the 18th century the world has experienced the so-called "enlightenment and Scientific Revolution which introduced the idea that human reason, logic, and empirical evidence–rather than Divine Revelation or Church dogma–should guide understanding of the universe and human society. Urbanization and the rise of mass education meant that scientific currila and secular laws began replacing Ecclesiastical control over daily life. The most mainstream decline is that traditional behavior occurred during the cultural shifts of the 1960s and 1970s. The advent of the birth control pill, the civil rights movement, and the prioritization of individual autonomy over institutional obedience radically transformed traditional views on sexuality, marriage, and gender roles.

Traditional societies prioritized the collective good, family duty, and obedience to divine hierarchy. Modern culture, by contrast champions "expressive individualism": the belief that the highest human good is to find your own inner truth and live authentically, free from the constraints of inherited traditions. In this framework, traditional behavioral codes are often viewed as restrictive rather than protective. Globalization, urbanization, and mass communication exposed people to a massive variety of competing worldviews, religions, and moral systems. This exposure naturally eroded the societal certainty that any single religion possessed the exclusive monopoly on right and wrong.

In recent decades, the exit from traditional religion has accelerated due to internal institutional failures. High-profile moral failures, financial misconduct, and sexual abuse scandals within the major religioius bodies severely damaged their moral authority. However, while traditional structures have receded significantly in the West, religion and spirituality have not vanished; rather, they have largely transformed into decentralized, private, and highly personalized belief systems..

In more recent years there is, however, a longing for a more meaningful way of life by young men and women but mostly young men who are turning to Christ and the Christian Church. Their spiritual hunger and for a more profound faith is real. They are discovering the importance of faith in God, prayer, worship, and following the commandments of our Lord, God and Savior is the answer to all their questions of life. They have come to understand that materialism, hedonism, and living an unconstrained and immoral life, drugs, and technological innovations lead to a dead end.

In Orthodox Christian theology, God’s ETERNAL TRUTHS ae not just abstract ideas. but A LIVING REALITY AND GIVES DIRECT MEANING, DIRECTION , AND PURPOSE TO HUMAN LIFE. Orthodox Christianity teaches that humans are not random accidents; we are purposefully created to share in the very life of God. Humans are made IN THE IMAGE (icon) of God, meaning we possess inherent dignity, free will, reason, and the capacity to love. While the "image" is our starting potential, the "LIKENESS" is the goal. Life is a journey of transforming our charaster to match God’s virtue. The central teaching of our Holy Orthodox Faith is THEOSIS (Deification), the process of becoming like God through union with Him. Saint Athanasius, one of the Great Holy Fathers of the Church famously wrote, "God became man so that man might become god." Humans do not become divine by nature, but we arae filled with God’s Uncreated energies and love.

Furthermore, Orthodoxy teaches that the earthly world is viewed as an arena for spiritual growth (ascesis). Struggles, temptations, and sufferings are not meaningless punishments. When united with Christ’s Cross, they become tools taht purify the soul and deepen faith. Because God exists as a communion of Three Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), human meaning is found in relationships. Our true fulfillment is achived within the Church community through agape, philanthropy, and mutual support, rather than through isolated self-reliance.

According to Orthodox Christian Tradition and the divine teachings of the Church, an authentic way of life is centered on following faithfully Jesus Christ, loving God, and serving others from the heart. Aligning our daily actions, thoughts, and character with the life and Holy Teaching and commandments of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ. Prioritizing unconditional love for God and neighbor over rigid legalism or superficial rules. Allowing God the Holy Spirit to renew our mind and to reshape personal values, moving away from self=centered living. It is imperative that we maintain consistency between our private beliefs and public actions in every situation. Regularly participating in Mysteries (Sacraments) the divine worship, prayer, and philanthropy. It is also important that we use personal gifts and resources to support the common good, especially the unfortunate and needy. Acknowledging personal human limitations and relying on prayer and Holy Scripture for spiritual guidance and development..

Orthodox Christian morality highly values sexual purity and views sexual promiscuity as a departure from God’s design for human relationships. In the Orthodox Tradition, the human body is considered ta "TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, and sexuality is understood AS A SACRED GIFT intended EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE LIFELONG, COVENANTAL BOND OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN. The sanctity of the body is emphasized by our Holy Church and rejects the concept that the body is inherently evil or dirty, instead, because Christ took on human flesh, the physical body is holy and meat to be transfigured through holiness. Within the Orthodox marriage, sexual intimacy serves two main purposes: the UNIFICATION OF THE COUPLE into "one flesh" and PROCREATION. It is viewed as an icon of Christ’s love for the Church. Chastity is not just the absence of sex; it is a state of spiritual wholeness, self-control and purity of heart. It applies to everyone: the unmarried are called to complete abstinence, while the married are called to exclusive fidelity.

In our modern world and society sexual promiscuity is encouraged and promoted without any accountability or embarrassment or fear of God. However Christianity. views sexual activity outside of marriage (fornication and/or adultery). It is understood as a FRAGMENTATION OF THE PERSON. PROMISCUITY SEPARATES PHYSICAL INTIMACY FROM SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL COMMITMENT, WHICH ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN TEACHING VIEWS AS SPIRITUALLY DAMAGING TO THE SOUL. The Holy Apostle Paul in his First Letter to the Corinthians states: "Do you not know that your bodies are members of Chirist? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot isone body with her? For ‘the two.’ He says, ‘shall become one flesh.’ "…Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality, sinis against his own body" {1 Corinthians 6:15-20). While the standards for purity are high, Orthodox Christianity emphasizes mercy and healing over condemnation. Our Holy Orthodox Church offers the Sacrament of Confession through which repentance, an individual is blieved to be fully restored to spiritual purity and wholeness, regardless of their past.
